If the kitchen is not in south – east direction it developes vastu defect and obstacles start coming in the way . According to vastushastra the following points need to be  remembered while planning a kitchen .

             * The  Kitchen should be in the south east corner of the house .

            * The kitchen platform should be a little away from the east wall but alongside the south wall . the gas burners should be so located that the housewife faces east while cooking .

            * The washbasin should be towards the east .

            * The refrigerator should be in south east so also the other appliance like oven , mixer etc .should be in the south east .

            *  Storage of provision should be in the north west or south west .

            * Only a small quantity of water should be stored in the east and north . If a large amount is stored then balance of the room becomes heavy in that corner , with negative results .

            *  The dining table should be in the north west so that diners face east .

            *  The window in the kitchen should  be in the east of south east , south east or north east . Sunlight should stream in . An exhaust fan should also be in this direction .

            * The vastupurush should be kept below a tile in south east corner of the house , where there is no likely hood of anyone stamping the image of diety .It should not be kept in any other part of the house as it will bring bad luck .

            ·    In a self contained flat , the area of the kitchen is always smaller and too much of furniture , makes it very congested  . It is  therefore , necessary that while planning emphasis is given to open space and good ambience . This will also promote the health of the women working there .

                 ·    In The north west corner of the kitchen at least five types of grocery items should be stored . this will please the goddess Annapurna and will ensure that there will not be shortage of food in the house .

                 ·   The garbage bin should normally be in north west corner of the house as a whole but if it is kept inside the kitchen it should also be placed in the north west .

                 ·    Normally the gasburner on kitchen platform and the sink are close together . Placing the fire and water elements close together in unscientific and the conflict between the two elements leads to defects . With the decline of the joint family system and incrase in nuclear families , there is considerable conflict between the members of the family . All this is because of the defects in the kitchen layout and location .

Vastushastra Of A HouseSo far we have considered the creation of the universe , nature , five elements and eight direction . Now we shall see how to select the land on which a dwelling is to be built , and its internal structure .

Today by the term home , we generally mean a two or three room selfcontained unit . The idea of this type of dwelling has become common and accepted in both the urban and rural setting . At the same time , individual houses and apartment complexes have also become common . Today the ides of how a house should be build that our ancient sages profounded , have not been followed and there is a great deal of difference between the modern and ancient  thought . Terefore , the aim of vastushastra is to harmonise the ancient and the modern concepts .

While buying a flat one must see that the maximum number of positive points are available . If the shell of building has already been constructed then the internal layout can be designed to confirm vastu principles and the remaining negative aspects can be removed by remedial measures .
If the plan for a house or any commercial building is made by an architect in consultation with a vastu specialist , the maximum number of positive points can be incorporated . If the builder puts up a sign or hoarding outside the project to say that project as per vastushastra then it will elicit good response and a large number of flat will be sold quickly . Of – course one has to ensure that this is not a mere  publicity stunt and that vastushastra has really been followed .
